Waterlogging has become a curse in Saharsa. In fact, even a little rain submerges the roads of most localities in the city. The Municipal Corporation neither makes temporary nor permanent arrangements for drainage. The water accumulated on the roads is left in the sun to dry. In view of these conditions, the Communist Party of India protested by planting paddy in knee-deep water on Polytechnic Road.
It is worth mentioning that apart from the Polytechnic College, there are many educational institutions on the Polytechnic Road situated on the Saharsa-Madhepura main road. This is also the route for buses going towards Madhepura. But on this road, water of one to one and a half feet is accumulated for a long distance. This situation does not occur only during the rainy months, but unseasonal rains also cause the same situation.
According to the information, Budko constructed a drain worth Rs. 50 crores in the city. Two sump houses were also constructed with the money worth crores. But despite that, the city did not get relief from waterlogging. The problem of waterlogging is getting worse day by day. CPI leaders, accusing the Municipal Corporation of negligence and looting crores of government money, protested by planting paddy amidst waterlogging and blocking the road.
During this time, the protesters also raised slogans against the Municipal Corporation. CPI leaders said that the condition of Polytechnic area, Gandhi Path, Hathi Tola, Kosi Project, Old Court, Batraha, Gangjala is hellish. The city has been made more ugly by looting more than two hundred crore rupees of the hard earned money of the public.
